Queen City Christmas Tournament at Kenwood High School: Dyer County downs Northwest 101-41

Clarksville Sports NetworkClarksville, TN – Entering Monday night’s opening game of the 2011 Queen City Christmas Tournament at Kenwood, Northwest knew it would need to play a near-perfect game to knock off unbeaten Dyer County.

With the way Dyer County was shooting from beyond the arc, however, even a perfect game wouldn’t have been enough as the Vikings (0-9) fell 101-41 to the Choctaws (11-0).

After trailing 12-2 midway through the game’s opening quarter, the Vikings pieced together a rally to trim the deficit to 17-14, but would get no closer.

After a Choctaws 3-pointer made it 20-14, the District 13-AAA powerhouse would go on a 32-5 run to close out the first half – and essentially close out the ballgame.

In all, the Choctaws buried 12 3-pointers – nine of which came in the first half.

Terrell Chambers kept the Vikings in the game early with some hot shooting of his own, knocking down four 3-pointers before finishing with 16 points. Tramon Moore added 11 points in the loss.

Choctaws guard Fred Yarbrough netted 14 points in the win for the Choctaws, who had all but one of their 16 players score.

Northwest returns to action Tuesday night for Day 2 of the Queen City Christmas Tournament at Kenwood.

The Vikings will face Cheatham County, who suffered a 75-43 loss to Kenwood in Monday’s nightcap. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. at Kenwood High School.
