High School Basketball Roundup for December 20th

Clarksville Sports NetworkClarksville, TN – The Northeast High School Eagles and Clarksville High School Lady Wildcats both remained undefeated with wins in high school basketball games Tuesday night. Northeast improved to 12-0 with its 67-52 victory over Hunters Lane in the State Farm Holiday Tournament in Riverdale. Clarksville High’s Lady Wildcats also upped their record to 12-0 with a 63-49 win over Munford in the Ensworth Tournament.

For Northeast, Kentucky signee Alex Poythress scored 30 points and Anthony Longstreet added 10.

For Clarksville High, Tennessee signee Bashaara Graves scored 26 points, Florida signee Chandler Cooper added 13 and Austin Peay signee Tiasha Gray chipped in 12. Rossview High also won in the Riverdale Tournament.

Girls Basketball Scoreboard for December 20th, 2011

Clarksville High 63, Munford 49 (Ensworth Tournament)

  • Clarksville High(12-0) led 15-14 after the first and outscored Munford 24-10 in the second to take a 39-24 lead at halftime. Bashaara Graves scored 26 points, Chandler Cooper had 13 and Tiasha Gray added 12.

Rossview 39, Hunters Lane 36 (Riverdale Tournament)

  • Rossview’s Janie White led the Lady Hawks with 15 points, Brandy Claybrooks added 14 and Kylie White scored 8. Rossview is 10-1 this season

McEwen 64, Clarksville Academy 40 (District 10-A game)

  • Clarksville Academy (2-6) was led by Shelby Chapman’s 13 points and Lauren Maki’s 12.

Boys Basketball Scoreboard for December 20th, 2011

Northeast 67, Hunters Lane 52 (Riverdale Tournament)

  • Alex Poythress scored 30 points and Anthony Longstreet added 10 Northeast (12-0) trailed 30-29 at halftime, but outscored Hunter’s Lane 38-22 in the second half, including 28-5 in the third quarter.

First Academy-Orlando 66, Clarksville High 58 (Ensworth Tournament)

  • Clarksville High led 21-17 at the end of the first, but trailed 40-35 at halftime and was outscored 26-23 in the second half. Anthony Hightower and Daijon Williams scored 17 points each for the Wildcats and Tevin Majors scored 15.

Riverdale 40, West Creek 31 (Riverdale Tournament)

  • West Creek (4-6) led 9-4 at the end of the first quarter, but Riverdale led 15-11 at halftime and 32-21 at the end of the third. DeAnthony Smith led West Creek with 13 points.

McEwen 50, Clarksville Academy 23 (District 10-A game)

  • McEwen led 27-9 at halftime. Cole Swaffer scored nine points and Thomas Jackson had seven for the Cougars (2-7-1).

James D. Horne began his writing career at the Carrollton Missouri Democrat in 1995, and was the assistant sports editor/writer for the Hammond Louisiana Daily Star for two years.  In 1998, Horne became the Missouri Basketball beat writer for the Columbia Daily Tribune. Originally from Tampa, Florida, Horne earned his B.A in communications from Central Methodist University in Fayette Missouri.
