Former Sound Dabney Named As Pitching Coach, Barajas As Trainer
Nashville, TN – The remainder of the Nashville Sounds’ 2012 coaching staff was announced this afternoon by the Milwaukee Brewers. Pitching Coach Fred Dabney, Athletic Trainer Greg Barajas, and Strength and Conditioning Coach Andrew Emmick will join Manager Mike Guerrero and Hitting Coach Al LeBoeuf on the Nashville bench during the upcoming season.
Dabney is in his ninth season as pitching coach in the Brewers organization and 15th year overall as an instructor in professional baseball. He spent the previous seven seasons as pitching coach at Advanced-A Brevard County and also a month of the 2010 season as Milwaukee’s interim bullpen coach.
Originally drafted in the 15th round by the White Sox in the 1988, the left-hander spent nine minor league seasons as a pitcher with Chicago-AL (1988-93), Cleveland (1994), and Chicago-NL (1995-96), including the 1993 season with the Sounds (2-5, 4.86 ERA in 51 relief appearances).
Barajas joins the Sounds and returns for a second career stint in the Milwaukee organization (previously 1998-2004). The two-time Athletic Trainer of the Year and 14-year industry veteran spent the previous two seasons as Assistant Athletic Trainer for the Boston Red Sox following 12 years in the minors, including five seasons (2005-09) at Triple-A Pawtucket.
Emmick returns to Nashville for his third season as the Sounds’ strength & conditioning specialist.
Guerrero and LeBoeuf were previously announced as members of the Nashville coaching staff by the Brewers in September 2011.
The Sounds kick off their eighth year as the Milwaukee Brewers’ top affiliate in April, when they open their 35th season of competition with an eight-game road trip. Greer Stadium hosts Nashville’s home opener on Friday, April 13th, when the Sounds take on the New Orleans Zephyrs at 7:05pm.
