Whitney Hanley named Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State UniversityWhitney HanleyClarksville, TN – Whitney Hanley, a senior on the Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

The Mt. Washington, KY, native recorded her fourth consecutive 20-point outing to begin Ohio Valley Conference play with a 26-point performance against Murray State, Saturday. The last time a Lady Gov recorded at least four consecutive 20-plus scoring performances was Ashley Haynes in 2006.

Hanley’s 26 points led all-scorers in the 71-63 come-from-behind victory against Murray State.  The senior did not just score in her 39-minute outing, she also tied for the team high with eight rebounds while also recording two assists and two steals.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

Junior Leslie Martinez, of the women’s basketball team, scored 14 points off the bench in Austin Peay’s win against Murray State. She was instrumental in the Lady Govs second-half charge, with a layup-steal-layup combination that tied the game turning the momentum. She tied for the team high with eight rebounds and led the team in both assists (four) and steals (three).

Junior Chantelle Grey, of the track and field team, took home second-place in her first ever 800-meter run as a Lady Gov at the Ed Temple Classic, finishing in 2:13.11. Grey, also was a member of the mile relay team that placed fourth, finishing in 4:04.63.

Senior Tanesha Campbell, of the track and field team, finished second in the shot put at the Ed Temple Classic, with a school-record throw of 13.65 meters (44-09.50). She also took home a fourth-place finish with a throw of 13.89 (45-07.00) meters in the weight throw.
