Austin Peay Lady Govs Softball picked 10th in OVC Preseason Softball Poll

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsBrentwood, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team has been picked to finish 10th in the 2012 Ohio Valley Conference softball race.

The Lady Govs received 37 points in a vote of league coaches and sports information directors.

Jacksonville State, which won the OVC tourney title a year ago, was the overwhelming selection to win the league title with 14 first-place votes and 190 points.

Defending regular-season champion Eastern Illinois was chosen second with two first-place votes and 162 points. UT Martin was selected third, gaining three first-place votes and 159 points, while SIU Edwardsville gained a first-place vote and was selected fourth (139).

Southeast Missouri (132 points) and Tennessee Tech (117) split the last two first-place votes to be predicted to finish fifth and sixth, respectively. Rounding out the poll are Murray State (109), Eastern Kentucky (75), Morehead State (61), APSU and Tennessee State (24).

Austin Peay finished the 2011 season with a 12-40 record, including a 7-23 mark. The Lady Govs, however, return its entire pitching staff along with seven starting position players from last season’s starting lineup.
