Airport Terminal Construction Expenses Explained

Montgomery CountyMontgomery County, TN – In a meeting of County and City accounting personnel, and the airport manager John Patterson, terminal construction expenses and anticipated grants were reviewed to determine where the construction budgets stands to date.

After hours of reconciliation, it was determined that an additional $202,000 will be needed to complete the project. The Authority will have to go back to the County Commission and the City Council at their February meetings to request the remaining funds.

The meeting was requested to validate the status of the projects’ budget and to determine if additional funding would be necessary to complete terminal construction. A miscommunication of how funds were going to be dispersed was uncovered.

The Airport Authority understood that the $175,000 provided by both the City and County would be used to match a state grant and not take away from terminal construction funding. However, the City and County both intended those matching funds to be deducted from the overall total terminal funding budget. This is where the discrepancy in budget allowances stemmed.

As the project moved forward, some unanticipated necessary expenses were incurred and are now included as part of the total construction cost. To date the City and the County are both current on processing invoices.

The Airport construction is on target to be completed early spring.
