Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s indoor track and field team begins its stretch run, Friday and Saturday, at East Tennessee’s Niswonger Invitational.

The Lady Govs enter the meet ranked in the Ohio Valley Conference’s Top 10 in nine different events, including Chantelle Grey’s top-ranked 800-meter run time along with Xiamar Richards second-ranked 5000-meter run time and Tanesha Campbell’s second-ranked shot put mark. Head coach Doug Molnar is looking to add to that list, this weekend.

“This is a big meet and we’re going to be looking for improvement,” Molnar said. “At the beginning of the season we talked about this meet as the time where we wanted to really get things going. It’s the time of year when we’ve finally shaken off the long break and now it’s time to perform.”

Last week, at Indiana’s Gladstein Invitatonal, Grey inched closer to APSU Hall of Famer Sheena Gooding’s 800m school record with a 2:11.09 finish.  Campbell, meanwhile, also has started to find her form in the shot put. In fact, her 46’4.25” mark not only is an APSU record, it’s only six inches from being the OVC’s best this season.

Xiamar RichardsMolnar is adamant that there are other Lady Govs on the cusp of breaking inside the league’s top-10. The Niswonger Invitational offers Molnar the opportunity to put his team in a multitude of events with hopes of simulating the upcoming OVC Indoor Championships.

“We’ll be running a lot of people in a lot of events to give them a taste of what is to come at the championships,” Molnar said. “We want to improve all our marks, but we’d really like to see the relays pop some good times.

“It will be a bit of an advantage running on the 300-meter track at ETSU. It’ll really give us a chance to get out and run.”
