Jerome Clyburn named Copies in a Flash Austin Peay Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State UniversityJerome ClyburnClarksville, TN – Jerome Clyburn, a junior on the Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

The Orange Park, FL, native, averaged 11.0 points and 4.0 assists, while making 8 of 11 from the floor and 16 of 18 from the free-throw line last week. Clyburn knocked down 12 of 14 free throws at Eastern Illinois, Saturday, and finished with a career-best 18 points. His 12 free-throws made tied for the most by an Ohio Valley Conference player this season.

It was the junior’s second-straight game in double figures after netting 12 points at SIU Edwardsville, Thursday, and dishing out a career-best seven assists. On the season, Clyburn has scored 10 or more points in seven games and has 10 games with four or more assists.

 

For his effort Clyburn was named Ohio Valley Conference “Newcomer of the Week.”

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

Senior TyShwan Edmondson, of the men’s basketball team, scored 32 points while adding five steals in the Governors two victories at Eastern Illinois and at SIU Edwardsville. He was 6-of-9 from three point range.

Junior Chantelle Grey, of the track and field team, finished second in the 800-meter run at 2:11.09, at Indiana University’s Gladstein Invitational. She also set a personal record in the 400-meter run at 57.26. Her 800-meter time is tops in the OVC and in the top-10 nationally, while her 400-meter mark is fourth-best in the league.
