Clarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

Center Closing for Annual Maintenance
The Burt-Cobb Community Center will be closed beginning February 6 through the 19 for annual maintenance. They center will reopen and resume normal business hours February 20, but the gym will remain closed through February 26 as the floors are being refinished.
Words for the Heart
Health educators will be at the Kleeman Community Center, February 13 from 12 to 6 p.m. to share information on how to live a “heart-healthy life style”. Information will include nutrition and exercise tips and free blood pressure screenings will be available. Cost is free.
Scuba
The Indoor Aquatic Center will hold its next introductory class Saturday, February 18 from 1 to 4 p.m., for those wanting to get a taste of the scuba experience and an overview of what is involved in Scuba Certification. Class is $25 and is open to ages 10 and up.
If you’re ready to get your PADI Scuba Certification, register today for our March 19th class. Two options are available. The “Open Water Diver PADI Certification Scuba Referral” for $200, provides you with classroom and pool time, but allows you to complete you certification with another PADI instructor (while on vacation). The Center also offers the “Complete PADI Certification” for $300. This option includes classroom, pool and 4 dives in the TN area. Book Signing
Author, Carolyn Stier Ferrell, who wrote “In Search of Nannie Tyler: A One hundred Year History of a Family Who Helped Shape Clarksville,” “Stories From the Queen City of the Cumberland,” and most recently, “Occupied,” will be at the Fort Defiance Interpretive Center, February 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., to answer questions and sign your copy of her latest book. Cost of the book is $35.
Surrender of Clarksville
Join the CW150th Commission, re-enactors and the local community, February 19 at 2 p.m., as they commemorate the Surrender of Clarksville. The program includes a short play followed by refreshments and Q&A. Visit www.fortdefianceclarksville.com for more details.
Clarksville Sports Festival
We are currently seeking businesses and companies interested in being exhibitors at the 2012 Sports Festival. The festival, scheduled to be held March 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at various locations on Austin Peay’s campus, will feature demonstrations, mini-clinics, give-a-ways and more, all celebrating sports and athletics in our local and surrounding communities. Well over hundreds of attendees are expected, which will provide maximum exposure for exhibitors. The exhibition application is available at the Parks & Recreation Department office or online at http://recpro.cityofclarksville.com. All forms must be turned in no later than February 24.
Kindermusik Demo Classes
The Crow Community will begin offering two kinds of Kindermusik classes in March: Kindermusik Family Time- open to all ages, and Kindermusik ABC Music and Me, open to children ages 2 to 4. If you want to learn more about these programs, participate in our free demo classes at the Crow Center on the following dates and times.
