Austin Peay Lady Govs Softball’s Lauren de Castro earns Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week honors for second straight week

Ohio Valley ConferenceLauren de CastroNashville, TN – For a second straight week Lauren de Castro has been selected adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week honors.

The Austin Peay State University sophomore hurler picked up both Lady Govs pitching wins this past weekend in the Downtown Hyatt Tulsa Tournament. The Torrance, CA, native made three starts, going 2-0 with a 1.47 earned-run average.

In pitching the Lady Govs to a 4-1 Friday win against Loyola-Chicago during round-robin play, she scattered seven hits while allowing just one run in going the distance. She struck out three and walked only one.

In gaining a no-decision on Saturday against North Texas, which had beaten the Lady Govs 8-0 a day earlier, de Castro allowed just four hits in six innings. She left with the score tied at 3-3, a game that saw APSU lose in eight innings.

Then on Sunday, de Castro again bested Loyola, this time by an 8-1 count. This time de Castro pitched three-hit ball, allowing one unearned run while fanning four.

For the weekend, de Castro hurled 19 innings, permitting 14 hits (.197 opponent batting average) while fanning 10 and walking the same number.

Player and Pitcher of the Week honors are voted upon by the league’s sports information representatives.

de Castro was OVC co-Pitcher of the Week  with Eastern Kentucky’s Leanna Pittsenbarger.  It is the first time in program history APSU has earned back-to-back OVC Pitcher of the Week honors.
