Clarksville, TN – On March 17th, the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center will host “The Power of Women” an inspirational and informative event for women on women’s issues, including a brunch and performance. Guest speakers will include breast cancer survivor Teri Johnson.

This is the second year the museum has offered an event specifically geared towards women. Included in the discussions will be topics of estate planning, the changes to hair and skin as one ages, owning a business, and an “investing in your future” session with F & M Bank’s Frazier Allen.
Local caterer The Choppin’ Block will provide a mimosa brunch during the event. Performance poet Thandiwe Shiphrah will cap off the day in the museum’s Turner Auditorium. Ticket prices are $25.00 for the general public and $15.00 for museum members. The event is sponsored by Legends Bank and Clarksville Pediatric Dentistry.

Patrons of “The Power of Women” will also get to enjoy the three exhibits on view. The two-story gallery of the Customs House Museum is filled with “The Words of Women” This year’s annual exhibit focuses on women writers. Participating writers were sent a vintage item to be used as the muse for their work. Prior to exhibit opening, each writer came to the museum and painted all or part of their work on the wall of the gallery.
Knoxville sculptor Annamaria Gundlach’s clay torsos can be found in the Kimbrough Gallery and an installation piece by Denise Stewart Sanabria titled “Quantum Confusion” fills the Orgain Gallery space.
Curator Terri Jordan states “we love to showcase the many talented artists Tennessee has to offer. Visitors will get to see some great diversified examples of art this month.”
About the Customs House Museum
Located at the corner of Second Street and Commerce Street, the Customs House Museum is the second largest general museum in Tennessee. Regular museum hours are 10:00am to 5:00pm Tuesday through Saturday, and 1:00pm to 5:00pm on Sundays.
Adult admission is $7.00, Senior Citizens and College ID $5.00, Ages 6 to 18 $3.00, and under six is free.
