Austin Peay Lady Govs Softball travel to SIU Edwardsville for first Ohio Valley Conference road trip

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team heads to Illinois this weekend for its season’s first Ohio Valley Conference road trip as the Lady Govs square off against the Southern Illinois Edwardsville for a three-game series.

The series will begin with a 1:00pm, Saturday doubleheader at Cougars Field, followed with a 1:00pm, Sunday single game.

Both teams enter the weekend series seeking their season’s first conference win after both teams were swept in the conference’s opening weekend. The Lady Govs (6-11, 0-3 OVC) dropped three games at home to Tennessee Tech, while SIU Edwardsville lost three road games Tennessee Martin.

After 17 games, Austin Peay is led at the plate by sophomore Lauren de Castro, who come into the weekend hitting at a .327 – with three doubles and three home runs – and a team best 11 RBI.

Freshman Lauren Bradley is next on the team with a .280 batting average, while the Lady Govs as a team are hitting .247.

In the circle, de Castro leads the Lady Govs pitching staff with a 4-2 record and a 2.19 ERA, with 30 strikeouts in 44 two-third innings of work.

SIU Edwardsville (8-15, 0-3 OVC) comes into the series having ended a six-game losing streak, Thursday, with a 4-3 home victory against Bradley. The Cougars have four players hitting better than .300, led by Alex McDavid’s .364 average.

Amanda Lambrecht leads SIUE with a 5-6 overall record and a 3.38 ERA, with 49 strikeouts in 78 2/3 innings pitched.
