Austin Peay Lady Govs Softball to host Morehead State for Ohio Valley Conference series this weekend

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will serve as host to Morehead State this weekend in a critical Ohio Valley Conference series for both teams at Cheryl Holt Field, as both battle to earn a spot in the conference’s post-season tournament.

The series begins 1:00pm, Saturday with a doubleheader and concludes with a 1:00pm, Sunday single game.

Both teams are looking to rebound from being swept Thursday in conference doubleheaders, with Austin Peay (7-15 1-7 OVC) losing 5-0 and 6-5 to Tennessee State, while the Eagles (7-15, 1-6 OVC) lost to Eastern Kentucky 2-1 and 8-6.

Sophomore Lauren de Castro, who leads Austin Peay in batting average with a .352 average, is coming off a 5-for-5 game in the nine-inning nightcap versus Tennessee State, marking the first time in at least 12 years a Lady Gov recorded five single-game hits. She also leads the team with 11 runs scored and 12 RBI, while tying for the team lead in home runs – along with redshirt junior Jessica Ryan and sophomore Kayla Davidson – with three.

Lauren de CastroIn the circle, de Castro tops the pitching staff with a 4-3 record and a 2.61 ERA to go with 34 strikeouts in 51 innings of work. Junior Morgan Brewer (2-7) and senior Ashley Bolda (1-3) have the other Austin Peay pitching wins.

Morehead State enters the weekend with four players hitting better than .300, led by Andrea Anderson’s .357 average, while Amber Riddle leads the team with seven home runs.

Jami Whitcomb paces the Eagle pitchers with a 3-4 record and a 4.40 ERA.
