Austin Peay Governor’ Tyler Rogers named Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week

Ohio Valley ConferenceTyler RogersBrentwood, TN – Austin Peay State University closer Tyler Rogers has been named the Ohio Valley Conference’s Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Rogers, of Littleton, CO, made an appearance in all five of the Governors contests last week, compiling 8.1 scoreless innings of relief. He posted saves in each of the Govs first two games at Southeast Missouri – his fourth and fifth saves this season – to help Austin Peay post its first-ever three-game sweep of Southeast Missouri.

Rogers opened the OVC series at Cape Girardeau, MO, with a three-inning save, striking out four batters and allowing five hits. He followed that with the more conventional one-inning save, striking out one batter in the ninth inning of Austin Peay’s Game 2 victory. Rogers finished the weekend by throwing scoreless eighth and ninth innings in the series finale.

The week began at Lipscomb, Tuesday, when Rogers entered the game with two runners on base and one out and allowed only one of those inherited runners to score before shutting the door. He followed that with 1.2 innings of shutout relief against Western Kentucky, striking out three.

Rogers has allowed only one run this season in 23.2 innings, spanning 13 appearances for a 0.38 ERA. He also has struck out 31 batters and permitted opponents to hit just .165 against him this season.

Austin Peay begins a five-game home stand with a 6:00pm, Tuesday contest against Alabama A&M. The Govs then host UT Martin in a three-game OVC series scheduled to begin with a 6:00pm, Friday contest.
