Austin Peay Governors Baseball’s Tyler Childress named adidas Ohio Valley Conference Co-Player of the Week

Ohio Valley ConferenceTyler ChildressBrentwood, TN – Austin Peay State University first baseman Tyler Childress has been named the adidas®  Ohio Valley Conference Co-Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Childress, of Dyersburg Tennessee, had a home run in three of the Governors four games last week and finished the week batting .500 with 10 RBI. He shared this week’s honor with Eastern Kentucky outfielder Austin Grisham, who batted .563 with two doubles, a triple, home run and eight RBI last week.

Childress opened the week with a grand slam against Alabama A&M, Tuesday, and was 1-for-4 with five RBI. He opened the UT Martin series with a pinch-hit two-run home run in Friday’s win. He didn’t bat in a run, Saturday, but was 2-for-3 at the plate. Childress wrapped up the weekend with a 2-for-4, three RBI outing, Sunday, that included a solo home run and a two-run single.

After entering the week batting .140 with two hits in his previous 12 games, Childress finished the week batting .210 with a four-game hit streak in hand.

It is the second consecutive week, and third time this season, an Austin Peay baseball player has received the league’s weekly honor. Closer Tyler Rogers picked up the league’s pitching award last week and shortstop Reed Harper was the league’s first player of the week.
