Austin Peay Lady Govs Softball hosts the Ohio Valley Conference leading UT Martin Skyhawks Wednesday

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team, winners of five of its last seven Ohio Valley Conference games, will serve as host to league-leading UT Martin, 5:00pm, Wednesday at Cheryl Holt Field for a doubleheader.

The Lady Govs (12-17, 6-9 OVC) come in having taken the last two conference weekend series, 2-1, versus Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky, while also recording a single-game conference win last Thursday against Tennessee State.

Tennessee Martin (24-12, 13-2 OVC) comes into the doubleheader  having won six straight games, including five consecutive OVC contests since a twinbill loss to Murray State back on March 24th.

Lauren de CastroAustin Peay is led offensively by sophomore Lauren de Castro’s .394 batting average, including this past week’s .538 clip, along with 18 runs scored and 20 RBI.

Freshman Paige Neely also is hitting better than .300 for the season, coming in at .309, including a .417 mark in last week’s four games.

In the circle, junior Morgan Brewer leads the Lady Govs pitching staff with a 6-7 win-loss mark this season, including wins in her last four decisions, and owns a 3.50 ERA to go with 71 strikeouts in 90 innings of work.

Ashley BoldaLeading the team in ERA (2.60) is de Castro, who sports a 4-5 win-loss record with 42 strikeouts in 64.2 inning of work.

Senior Ashley Bolda and sophomore Taylor Mills also have Lady Govs’ pitching wins.

UT Martin is led at the plate by Leah Taylor, who sports a .434 batting average, with 19 extra-base hits and 21 stolen bases.

Kayla Wade is also hitting better than .300 for the Skyhawks, coming in at .336 with 11 stolen bases.

Taylor MillsChelsea Jones has been UT Martin pitching staff workhorse, coming in with a 17-4 record, 116 strikeouts and a 2.31 ERA in 142.1 innings.

The Wednesday doubleheader will be the only games for the Lady Govs this week, with this weekend being their open conference weekend.
