The Lady Govs are coming off a tough league loss to Murray State which saw them win the doubles point, but drop four singles matches to fall, 4-3. It was the second time this season the Lady Govs won the doubles point and went on to lose the match.

Individually, senior Vanja Tomic looks to continue her bid to become the OVC’s top women’s player. Tomic is riding a 16-match winning streak entering her final home weekend as a Lady Govs player. The 2010 OVC Player of the Year already has defeated two ranked opponents and is currently 5-0 in league play.

As far as career’s go, Tomic’s ranks among the best all-time in Lady Govs tennis. She has an all-time 42-11 record, along with a 21-1 career OVC record.

This season, Tomic has gotten plenty of help from a young Lady Govs team. Freshman Alison Carre is 5-0 at No. 3 singles while freshman Ornella Di Salvo has evolved into a viable No. 2 singles player with a 4-1 mark. Sophomore Andra Cornea, meanwhile, is 3-2 in league play.

Tennessee State’s women remains winless after seven matches this season. The Lady Tigers are still searching for the season’s first singles win, entering Friday’s match with an 0-33 OVC singles record. They have an 0-18 doubles mark in OVC play.

Jacksonville State will play at Murray State, Friday, before facing the Lady Govs. The Gamecocks are fresh off a 4-3 win against Southeast Missouri. They also have league wins against SIU Edwardsville and Eastern Illinois.
