A woman who lost her 5 year old child has been charged with DUI, Felony Reckless Endangerment, and Child Abuse/Neglect.
Clarksville, TN – On April 6th, 2012, a little after midnight Clarksville Police Officer Keith Jones was driving on Fort Campbell Boulevard transporting someone to Montgomery County jail when he saw a vehicle driving erratically. The vehicle was swerving and had crossed into the oncoming lanes of traffic.
He notified units in the area so the vehicle could be stopped, but the erratic driving became so severe that he could not wait for other units and initiated a traffic stop at Fort Campbell Boulevard and Airport Road.
Officer Chris MacMillan who had worked the earlier crash also recalled that there were two children, a male and female in the vehicle, and now only the two year old male was present. Martin was asked where the female child was at. Martin responded ambivalently and said she didn’t know.
She then told officers multiple different locations where she may have left the child. She then started looking inside of the car and calling the child’s name. The possibility there was a child missing was disseminated over the radio to officers throughout the city. There were officers sent to the Walnut Street address listed on Martin’s drivers license.
When officers arrived, they found the apartment door unlocked and the five year old female alone and scared inside of the residence. Officers stayed with the child until Martin’s husband, who had left the house earlier in the evening, could be located. Both children were turned over to the father.
