Austin Peay Governors Tennis faces a strong field in the Mizzou Intercollegiate

APSU Sports: Austin Peay Men’s Golf

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s golf team will face perhaps it’s stiffest competition of the spring, Monday and Tuesday, at the Columbia Orthopaedic Group Mizzou Intercollegiate, hosted by Missouri.

The 15-team tournament field includes host Missouri, Belmont, Binghamton, Cincinnati, Creighton, Iowa State, IUPUI, Nebraska, Northern Illinois, Northern Iowa, Oral Roberts, Purdue, South Dakota and Wisconsin. The 54-hole tournament is being played at The Club at Old Hawthorne, beginning with 36 holes, Monday, and an 18-hole final round, Tuesday.

“This is probably the nicest golf course we’ve played on this spring,” head coach Kirk Kayden said. “It’s full of rolling hills and angulated greens, which means we have to be on the correct shelf of the green. We’re going to have to play smart golf.”

Austin Peay is coming off a second-place finish at the ASU Red Wolf Intercollegiate, last week, improving to 27-0 against Ohio Valley Conference teams during the 2011-12. As has been the case for the Govs, it was a different scoring leader at ASU with freshman Tucker Wallace logging a fifth-place finish.

At Mizzou, sophomore Anthony Bradley will top the Govs lineup. Bradley has been one of Kayden’s top two finishers in seven of nine tournaments, boasting a team-best 73.17 scoring average. Junior Dustin Korte will be the No. 2 player, followed by sophomores Marco Iten and Trey Tarpley. Wallace will be the Govs fifth player.

“It’s a tremendous field all the way around,” Kayden said. “We’re going to go out there and try to keep this thing going. It’d be nice to get some wins against these guys. We start out, Monday, playing with South Dakota and Wisconsin.”
