Austin Peay Lady Govs Basketball add Symantha Norton to 2012 Class

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s basketball head coach Carrie Daniels returned to her old stomping grounds for the fifth addition to her 2012-13 recruiting class, signing Symantha Norton of Scottsburg, IN, to a national letter of intent.

Norton, a 5-11 guard/forward, averaged 14.7 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game and led Scottsburg High School – Daniels’ prep alma mater – to a 16-7 record and the IHSAA regionals this season.

She was a Hoosier Basketball third-team All-State selection and an Associated Press honorable mention All-State selection as a senior. Norton also was named to the Indiana Class Basketball All-Star Classic squad. She was twice named a Mid-Southern All-Conference member and was twice her team’s Most Valuable Player.

“We are thrilled to add Symantha to our incoming class,” said Daniels. “She brings versatility, is very energetic and plays with such passion. Symantha has been coached by Indiana Hall of Fame coach Donna Cheatham and I know what great coaching she has been getting as far as fundamentals, discipline, competitiveness, toughness and overall winning attitude.”

Norton was a three-sport athlete at Scottsburg, also competing in track and volleyball. She competed in the shot put, winning the Mid-Southern Conference title and qualifying for the IHSAA regionals as a junior. Norton also was a Mid-Southern All-Conference selection in volleyball and twice named the team’s Most Valuable Player.
