Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s track and field team has added to its 2012-13 recruiting class in signing local standout Kymmalette Ross to a National Letter of Intent, announced Tuesday.

For the Lady Govs, Ross will compete as a sprinter in the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dash. She also will be looked to provide depth in the sprint relays and the high jump. Her versatility and athletic pedigree are two of the reason she is thought to be a good fit at Austin Peay.

“She’s very young to the sport and already has some impressive times,” assistant coach Valerie Brown said. “She has a strong desire and passion. People like her will be successful and we look forward to having her here.”

A two-sport athlete at Clarksville’s Northwest High School, Ross lettered in both basketball and track. She was a three-time all-district pick as a forward for the Vikings basketball team. In track, she finished 13th at the 2011 state championships in the high jump and sixth in the 200-meters.

Most recently, Ross won the 200- and 400-meter races at the APSU Governors High School Classic. She is currently ranked in the state’s top 10 in the 400-meters (1st 56.70), the 200-meters (6th/25.66) and the 100-meters (7th/12.38).
