Nashville Sounds’ Losing Skid Hits Seven With 2-1 Loss to Omaha Storm Chasers

Nashville SoundsPapillion, NE – Starting pitcher Nate Adcock tossed eight innings of one-run ball as the division-rival Omaha Storm Chasers handed the Nashville Sounds a 2-1 defeat on Sunday afternoon at Werner Park.

The loss was the Sounds’ seventh in a row and the club’s longest since dropping nine straight contests from May 2nd-10th last season. The Sounds’ 4-14 start is the 2nd-worst in club history through 18 games of action.

Fourteen of the Sounds’ 18 games have been decided by one or two runs (3-11 in those contests).

Nashville’s lone run came in the opening frame as designated hitter Brooks Conrad hit a deep homer to right field, his second of the season. The home run was Nashville’s second long ball hit in the opening frame in consecutive days.

The Storm Chasers quickly knotted the game in the home half of the first as leadoff hitter Jarrod Dyson began the game with a stand-up triple. He scored two pitches later on a Johnny Giavotella sacrifice fly.

Nashville starter Seth McClung kept the Omaha offense in check until the bottom of the seventh inning when Terry Evans and Ryan Eigsti had consecutive base hits to remove him from the contest.

On the next play after reliever Victor Garate entered the game, Omaha executed a safety squeeze as Dyson laid down a perfectly placed bunt single that allowed Evans to score the go-ahead run.

McClung (0-2) pitched well but took the hard-luck loss while tossing Nashville’s sixth quality start of the season. The veteran right-hander surrendered two runs on six hits while striking out five in 6 1/3 innings.

Garate finished the game with 1 2/3 scoreless innings with two strikeouts while allowing one of two inherited runners to score.

Brandon Sisk fanned one in a perfect ninth for his first save of the season.

The Sounds and Storm Chasers will play the third game of a four-game set at 6:35pm CT at Werner Park on Monday evening. Sounds right-hander Mark Rogers (0-1, 6.00) will toe the rubber for the second time this season to face Omaha southpaw Ryan Verdugo (1-0, 5.11).
