Clarksville, TN – For just the second time this season, Governors skipper Gary McClure gave the ball to Zach Toney for a Friday night start as the Austin Peay Baseball team welcomed the Jacksonville State Gamecocks for a three-game weekend series at Raymond C. Hand Park.
Nashville, TN – In the 3rd round of the 2012 NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans pickup Michigan Wolverines defensive tackle Mike Martin with the 19th pick (82nd overall pick).
Martin was the 2011 season captain for Michigan and also a four year letterman. He had 64 tackles and 3.5 sacks his senior year. Martin’s strength is his strong suit. Specialist Jason Edens is killed in action in Afghanistan
Nashville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Many-Bears Grinder respectfully announce the loss of Tennessee soldier, Specialist Jason K. Edens of Franklin, TN.
Edens died on April 26th, in Bethesda, Maryland from wounds he sustained during an enemy attack on his unit in Laghman province in Afghanistan on April 15th. The 22-year old Williamson County native was an Infantryman assigned to 1st Squadron, 13th Calvary Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss, Texas.
Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Titans take North Carolina Tar Heels outside linebacker Zach Brown with the 20th pick (52 overall pick) in the 2nd round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
Brown led the Tar Heels last season with 105 tackles despite missing one game. He had 5.5 sacks, three interceptions and three forced fumbles his senior year. Brown has sprinter like speed recording a 4.5 second 40 yard dash at the combine. He is explosive off the line allowing him to shed blocks and get to the ball. «Read the rest of this article»

Dickson, TN – A rough front nine dropped Austin Peay State University men’s golf team to second place after 36 holes at the 2012 Ohio Valley Conference Men’s Golf Championships, played at Dickson’s GreyStone Golf Club.
Anheuser-Busch recognizes Budweiser of Clarksville and Budweiser of Hopkinsville as Ambassadors of Excellence
Clarksville, TN – Budweiser of Clarksville, a beverage distributorship and the corporate hub of Hand Family Companies, and Budweiser of Hopkinsville (KY), also a Hand Family Companies property, were recognized as “Ambassadors of Excellence” by Anheuser-Busch Brewing Company for their 2011 performance.
Only 20 of the more than 700 Anheuser-Busch wholesalers in the nation were selected for the award, and the Clarksville facility placed fourth.

Austin Peay State University Nursing School repeats success of 100% pass rate on NCLEX licensure test
Clarksville, TN – For the third time in the last three years, the Austin Peay State University School of Nursing recorded a 100 percent pass rate on the NCLEX licensure testing last winter, surpassing the national average pass rate of 91 percent.
A total of 39 graduates from the Class of 2011 in December took the NCLEX for the first time and passed. The national average of 91 percent represents those who took the test January-March 2012. «Read the rest of this article»
Clarksville, TN – As part of the national women’s week of action, the Clarksville Women for Obama held a house party at Singleton’s Restaurant to talk about the Affordable Care Act. The purpose of the meeting was to help educate women (and men) on how health care reform is making a difference for them and their families right now and how it is going to help them in the future.
The turnout was great and it gave a lot of women and men in Clarksville the chance to learn more about the Affordable Care Act benefits.
