Dickson, TN – Junior Dustin Korte, of the Austin Peay State University men’s golf team, was named first-team All-Ohio Valley Conference while sophomore Anthony Bradley was a second-team pick, the conference announced at its 2012 OVC Golf Championship Banquet, Thursday night.Freshman Tucker Wallace, meanwhile, was named to the league’s All-Newcomer team.
“I’m proud of these guys,” head coach Kirk Kayden said. “We’d like to have had a couple more on there because we’ve really had a full-team effort this season. We’ve had a number of guys lead us, but these three have really stood out.”
This is Korte’s second All-OVC honor after being named second-team as a sophomore. The Metropolis, IL, native was one of the Govs top two golfers all season, having won OVC Player of the Week honors a team-best three times. In fact, he led the Govs in three events, including two second-place finishes.
His 73.3 stroke average is second-best on the team, while his two rounds in the 60s also ranked second for a Govs team that won back-to-back tournaments during the fall. Korte’s most impressive rounds have come against the stiffest competition.
At the COG Mizzou Intercollegiate, Korte shot 70-69-71, beating out 2011 PING Golf All-American Jace Long. In the Govs’ first spring tournament, Korte shot an opening-round 68 at the Samford Intercollegiate to finish at three-under par. Korte is currently third at the OVC Tournament after an opening-round 70.
Bradley’s All-OVC nod comes on the evening of a season-best 66 in first-round OVC Tournament play. For the Ivybridge, England native, being in front is no big surprise as he boasts the Govs best scoring average (73.1) while also leading the Govs with four rounds in the 60s and 15 par or better rounds.
Three times Bradley has been the Govs top finisher, recording six top-10 finishes along the way. Bradley was most recently named the OVC’s Golfer of the Week after a third-place finish at Ball State’s Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational. His low rounds have come at opportune times for the Govs, including a 69 in the Govs second-place finish last week and a 69 at the Mizzou tourney.
Wallace continues a long tradition of outstanding freshmen golfers for the Govs. Playing in eight events, Wallace had a 75.0 stroke average that included two rounds in the 60s and six rounds of par or better.
His season’s best finish was part of Austin Peay’s second-place team finish at the ASU Red Wolf Intercollegiate. He shot two-under par to finish seventh – earning his third top-10 finish.
