Austin Peay Lady Govs Softball Seniors close out home schedule against Jacksonville State Gamecocks

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will host Jacksonville State, for a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series this weekend in the final home games of 2012 at Cheryl Holt Field.

The series begins with a, 1:00pm, Saturday doubleheader and concludes with a 1:00pm, Sunday single game.

This weekend’s contests also will be the final home games for three Lady Govs seniors: pitcher Ashley Bolda (Wentzville, MO), centerfielder Catie Cozart (Newburgh, IN) and catcher Amy Mills (Chelsea, OK). Between the trio, they have played 462 games played for Austin Peay.

Bolda, Cozart and Mills will be honored in a ceremony between Saturday’s doubleheader.

Lauren de CastroAustin Peay (16-28, 7-17 OVC) is led offensively by sophomore first baseman/pitcher Lauren de Castro, who is hitting an even .400 for the season, with team bests in runs scored (27), RBI (28), slugging percentage (.648), on-base percentage (.449), doubles (10), home runs (8) and walks (13).

Freshman shortstop Paige Neely is the only other Lady Govs hitting more than .300 after 44 games this season and enters the series with a .333 batting average, 17 RBI and 13 runs scored.

Morgan BrewerIn the circle, junior Morgan Brewer leads the Lady Govs pitching staff with an 8-13 win-loss mark this season, including a 1-0 eight-inning shutout of Evansville in her last start Wednesday, and owns a 3.37 ERA to go with 96 strikeouts in 139.1 innings of work.

Leading the team in ERA (2.68) is de Castro, who sports a 5-6 record with 61 strikeouts in 86.1 inning of work.

Jacksonville State (23-22, 17-7 OVC) is led offensively by Shelby Holley, who enters the matchup batting .323 with 16 home runs and 28 RBI.

Tiffany Harbin paces the Gamecocks pitching staff with 132.1 innings pitched that has translated into a 13-6 overall record, a 2.27 ERA and 127 strikeouts.
