APSU Sports: Austin Peay Women’s Track and Field
Clarksville, TN – For the second-straight year, Austin Peay State University women’s track and field team defeated Murray State and Tennessee Tech in the Showdown on the Cumberland.
The Lady Govs totaled 89 points to edge out the Racers (78) and the Golden Eagles (49) in the 11-event meet, held Thursday, at Governors Stadium.In all, Austin Peay won five events – taking the top two spots in the 800-meter run, the 1500-meter run and the high jump. One of the meet’s highlights came with a second-place finish as senior Tanesha Campbell set the APSU school record in the discus with a 42.97m mark. Campbell also finished second in the shot put.
“Tanesha has been battling some injuries,” head coach Doug Molnar said. “She’s been after the discus mark for a while, so it was exciting to see her overcome and get the record.”
Austin Peay earned 12 points in the 1500-meter run with sophomore Xiamar Richards winning the race at a season-best 4:49.68 and senior Janelle Avery finishing second at 4:54.44. The Lady Govs also got first and second in the 400-meters – Chantelle Grey at 56.13 and Candace Johnson at 58.27.

Next for Austin Peay is the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championships, May 4th-5th, hosted by Southeast Missouri.
