Nashville, TN – Morgan Brewer, who posted a 3-0 record this past week including two victories against second-place Jacksonville State, has been named the adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week in a vote of league sports information representatives.
Brewer spurred the Lady Govs to a 3-1 week, including its first sweep of Jacksonville State. In fact, when the Collierville native hurled APSU to a 5-3 victory, Sunday, it was the first time JSU had been swept in a three-game OVC series since joining the league in 2004.Not only did Morgan win all three starts last week, she fired complete games in each as well. She opened the week by firing eight innings of shutout softball against Evansville, Wednesday, as the Lady Govs prevailed 1-0 in the extra-inning encounter.
The junior then limited Jacksonville State to five hits and two run over seven innings in APSU’s 3-2 first-game Saturday victory.
On Sunday, Brewer capped the weekend by scattering eight hits and two earned runs in APSU’s 5-3 victory, her 10th win this season.
For the week, Brewer allowed just 17 hits while fanning 11 in 22 innings of work, posting a 1.27 earned-run average. She now has double-digit wins for the second time in her Lady Govs’ career.
This is the fourth time APSU has been recognized with weekly softball honors. Sophomore Lauren de Castro twice was named OVC Pitcher of the Week early in the season and was named Player of the Week earlier this month.
APSU will wrap up its season this weekend with a three-game series at Eastern Illinois, beginning with a 1:00pm, Saturday doubleheader.
