APSU Governors Baseball’s Reed Harper named to Capital One First-Team Academic All-District team

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Reed Harper, a junior shortstop for the Austin Peay State University baseball team, was named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District 3 Baseball Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), Friday.

Harper, of Clarksville (Clarksville High School), is a chemistry major and finished the fall semester with a 3.55 cumulative grade-point average. He has been named to the APSU athletic director’s honor roll each of his five semesters and been named to the Ohio Valley Conference’s Commissioner’s Honor Roll (3.25 GPA for the academic year) in both 2009-10 and 2010-11.

On the field, Harper has started every game of his collegiate career – a streak of 155 consecutive starts. In addition, he finished Friday’s action leading the Governors with a .330 batting average. Harper has 16 extra-base hits this season, including 12 doubles, and has posted 27 RBI. He also was named one of 50 finalists for the Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award Watch List, Thursday.

It is the second consecutive year Harper has been recognized with Academic All-District honors. He was named to the District 4 team last season as a sophomore. In addition, it is the third consecutive year an Austin Peay baseball player has received Academic All-District recognition.

With his first-team recognition, Harper will appear on the Capital One Academic All-America ballot, with those teams being named May 29th. To be eligible for nomination in the Capital One Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore academic standing and have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average. District 3 selections come from schools located within the states of North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
