Spring Fling – Another Successful Year

Dunbar Cave State Natural AreaClarksville, TN – The Friends of Dunbar Cave sponsored another successful Spring Fling event.  Saving Our American Raptors was a hit with their educational sessions on birds, including a one winged bald eagle, several hawks, and owls that the children could pet.  The Reptiliacs brought dozens of pet snakes to show the kids a variety of species and let kids touch the snakes up close.

Debbie Hamilton led an early morning bird hike, while Nathan Parker led several wildflower hikes throughout the day.  There were learning stations about camping, solar power, bats, and other furry animals.

Students from Austin Peay State University’s Center of Excellence for Field Biology were on hand to talk about the ongoing studies being conducted at Dunbar Cave.

And lots of folks took advantage of canoeing Swan Lake.  Spring Fling is the only time the park allows canoes on the lake.

If you missed this fun, free family oriented event, don’t stress.  The Friends of Dunbar Cave sponsors the Spring Fling each May.  The next event is the popular Cooling at the Cave, where a crowd gathers around the mouth of the cave to enjoy mother nature air conditioning while playing games and listening to love music.   Cooling at the Cave will be July 28th, so mark your calendars and keep an eye on Clarksville Online for more information as the date draws near.
