Tennessee Highway Patrol names New Captain to oversee Tennessee Capitol Security and Executive Protection Units

Mark Proctor is a 15 Year Tennessee Highway Patrol Veteran

Tennessee Department of SafetyNashville, TN – Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security Commissioner Bill Gibbons and Tennessee Highway Patrol Colonel Tracy Trott on Friday announced Mark Proctor as the new captain overseeing the agency’s Capitol Security and Executive Protection Units.

Captain Proctor has been assigned to the Governor’s Security Detail since 2001. During that time, he advanced to the ranks of sergeant and lieutenant with the Executive and Protective Services unit. Most recently, as lieutenant, Proctor has been responsible for the supervision of the security teams for the Governor and First Lady.

“Mark has demonstrated a high level of excellence in providing security for the Governor, First Lady, and other dignitaries that visit our state,” Colonel Trott said. “Mark is an asset to the patrol, and I’m confident he will take on his new, additional responsibilities with that same dedication,” Trott added.

In his new role as captain, Proctor will also manage the Capitol Security Unit and implement safety plans for the Capitols grounds, including Legislative Plaza.

“In addition to overseeing executive security, Mark is now taking on the very serious responsibility of leading the team that provides security in the State Capitol area. Most weekdays, thousands of citizens and visitors descend on this area. Mark will direct the efforts to keep all those who work in and visit this area safe,” Commissioner Gibbons said.

Proctor graduated from the Tennessee Highway Patrol Academy in 1997 and was first stationed as a road trooper in Dyer County. He also worked as a road trooper in Dickson, Humphreys and Cheatham counties. Originally from Humphreys County, Proctor is a graduate of McEwen High School, Austin Peay State University, and the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command. He resides in Nashville.
