Clarksville, TN – I’m a Tiger Woods’ fan and the ratings, when he’s good, show a lot of golf fans are too.
Obviously, I’m not a golf historian or true pundant and national golf analyst, but it’s those guys for years who have said Tiger is one of the greatest ever to pick up a club. They’ve marveled in his ability and in turn we’ve learned, been told of and in some cases on our own watched him proved that for most of his career.
I say all this to confirm that it is not James D. Horne, who alone claims Tiger to be great. There’s plenty of numbers and again there’s plenty of analyst who will back those up.
With that all being said, for the first time in my life I ready to say: “Tiger … Give it a rest buddy! The dream is over. You had it all and still accomplished more than many realized you ever would. You walked the walk and talked the talk and dazzled us since 1996. You’ve been great and actually made golf relevant to the masses. But it’s over now. Just like it was for Brett Favre, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Jerry Rice and countless others who played past their prime. Now go find yourself a waitress from TGI Friday’s sit back, relax and have a few cold ones!”
When you look at the table below to see how Tiger has fared this year, — and yes he roared on Friday so he wouldn’t miss the cut for a second straight time, but finished +4 for the tournament — a first for Tiger, it’s plain to see the man’s just not got it anymore and remember I wrote back in March after his only win this year that Tiger was back and raring to go.
I was just hopeful and really want him to be what he was, but he’s stinking up the joint now.
So Tiger quit while your ahead because you’re embarrassing yourself and denigrating your legacy.
And I’ll warn you now, you might not want to get too attached to Rory McIlroy, either. I’m just saying.
