APSU Governors Tennis’ Sean Bailey named to Capital One Academic All-District 3 At-Large team

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University rising senior tennis standout Sean Bailey has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District 3 Men’s At-Large team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) has announced.

Bailey, the 2012 Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year, has proven to be outstanding both on and off the court.

The corporate communicatons and French double major, who owns a 3.94 grade-point average, recently was presented Austin Peay’s 2011-12 Male Scholar-Athlete Award, annually awarded to the junior or senior with the highest grade-point average.

Bailey is a four-time member of the President’s List (4.0 GPA) and two-time member of the Dean’s List (3.5 GPA or better). He also is a two-time member of the Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll (3.25 GPA for year). Bailey has been a member of the Athletics Director’s Honor Roll (3.0 GPA) all six semesters.

On the court, the Manitoba, Canada native led Austin Peay to second-place in the OVC standings. He owned an overall 19-5 singles mark, including a 7-0 at No. 1 singles during OVC play. Bailey also was 5-3 in No. 1 doubles.

A three-time All-OVC selection, Bailey was chosen as Austin Peay’s 2011-12 Most Outstanding Male Athlete.

Bailey’s name now will move to the national ballot to be considered for Academic All-America. CoSIDA began the Academic All-America program in the 1950s and has honored thousands of deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across the country in all divisions. Capital One became official sponsor of the program in January 2011.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable).

No student-athlete is eligible until he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
