The win by Austin Peay snapped a six-game losing streak to Southeast Missouri in OVC Tournament games dating back to the 2002 season.

Southeast Missouri’s season ends at 23-36.

After falling behind 2-0, Austin Peay scored three times in the third and fourth innings to lead 6-2 and would never trail again. The defending tournament champions added a lone run in the seventh and three more in the eighth to cap its scoring.

Greg BachmanAPSU senior third baseman Greg Bachman was 4-for-5 in the game in setting a new all-time Austin Peay career hits record (265), passing the mark of 263 held by current Los Angeles Dodgers catcher A.J. Ellis (2000-03). Bachman, the OVC’s RBI leader, drove in three runs on the day.

After Govs starter Kacy Kemmer lasted just one inning, senior Zane Leffew (3-2) stymied the Redhawks attack, pitching 6.2 innings and allowing three runs (two earned) while striking out three.

Southeast starter Zach Smith (2-8) took the loss, allowing nine hits and six earned runs over four innings.

Redhawks shortstop Kenton Parmley homered for the second time in the Championship and finished 2-for-4. Teammate Trenton Moses, the OVC Player of the Year, ended his career by reaching base for the 79th-straight game dating back to last season; the mark is the all-time Southeast Missouri record.
