Nashville Sounds hold the New Orleans Zephyrs scoreless to win 1-0

Corey Patterson Homers For Nashville To Provide Only Run In Contest

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Mark Rogers turned in one of the best outings of his pro career in leading the Nashville Sounds to a 1-0 victory over the New Orleans Zephyrs on Tuesday evening at Greer Stadium.

Rogers (2-3) matched a career high with seven scoreless innings of action, scattering five hits during his 86-pitch effort. He walked one batter and fanned three in his third quality start of the season, facing only two batters over the minimum during his outing.

Jim Henderson followed Rogers with a pair of hitless innings to earn his third save and close out the Sounds’ fifth shutout win of the season, tied with Las Vegas and New Orleans for most in the PCL.

New Orleans advanced a runner as far as second base only twice all evening and both runners were left stranded.

Left fielder Corey Patterson provided the only offense that Nashville needed when he led off the bottom of the first inning with his third home run of the season, a solo shot to left on a 3-1 offering from New Orleans starter Tom Koehler. It was the Sounds’ second leadoff homer of the year (Logan Schafer, April 21st).

With the victory, Nashville (21-36) gained a split of the four-game series with the Zephyrs. It was the Sounds’ second 1-0 victory of the year; both have come against New Orleans at Greer Stadium.

Koehler (6-5) took a hard-luck loss for the Zephyrs. He allowed only one hit, the Patterson leadoff homer, in his six innings of work. The right-hander walked two batters and struck out seven.

Sounds catcher Jason Jaramillo singled in the eighth inning to extend his longest hitting streak of the season to five games. The backstop is batting .316 in six games since joining Nashville.

Following a league-wide off day tomorrow, the Sounds embark on a nine-game, seven-day road trip to Iowa and Memphis that includes a pair of doubleheaders in Des Moines which will make up April rainouts.

Nashville begins a six-game series at Iowa’s Principal Park on Thursday at 7:05pm. Right-hander Wily Peralta (1-7, 6.83) will make the start for the Sounds and face off against Iowa right-hander Chris Volstad (2-0, 4.12).
