Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

Community Centers will be CLOSED Wednesday, July 4th in observance of Independence Day.

This weeks highlights include:

Annual Independence Day Celebration

Clarksville Independence Day Celebration FireworksThe City of Clarksville, Aetna Insurance and U.S. Bank invite you to celebrate our nation’s Independence Day on July 3rd at McGregor Park. This year’s FREE festivities are set to kick off at 6:00pm with the music of local favorites Tina Brown and Mike Bryant, followed by Clarksville’s largest fireworks display. With the food, music and fun, everyone is sure to have a great time.

NEW Youth Kickball League

Register at the Independence Day Celebration

KickballRegistration has been extended thru July 6th! Anyone interested can even register at the Independence Day Celebration, taking place July 3rd at McGregor Park. Youth ages 7-14, can participate in our first-ever co-ed youth kickball league. League runs from August 16th thru October 11th. All games are played on Thursday evenings at Heritage Park Baseball fields. Cost is $30.00 per child.

Yoga in the Park – now thru August 3rd!

The popular “Yoga in the Park” fitness session will be extending through August 3rd (class will not be held July 4th). Join the Parks and Recreation Department and the YMCA at McGregor Park every Wednesday and Friday from 6:00am to 7:00am for FREE Yoga!

Free showing of “A League of Their Own”

A League of Their Own at Movies in the Park July 7th

Join us at dusk on Saturday, July 7th at Heritage Park soccer fields for the viewing of “A League of Their Own”- rated PG. Come early to save your spot and check out “move before the movies” featuring stretching exercises. Admission to the movie is free.

*NEW* Kayaking Clinics

Interested in learning more about kayaking? Introductory classes are being held at our pools to teach the basics of kayaking. Instruction will include rescue techniques, paddle strokes, boat fitting and more. The next class will be held at Bel-Aire pool Thursday, July 5th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The cost is $25.00 per person. You must be at least 5’2 to participate.

July is National Parks and Recreation Month

Clarksville Parks and RecreationCome to the City Council meeting, July 5th at 7:00pm and support Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan as she proclaims July as Parks and Recreation Month in Clarksville. This July we are encouraging you and your family to GET WILD about parks and recreation!

Visit www.cityofclarksville.com/parks&rec for a calendar of ways you can GET WILD. Show us ways in which you enjoy the parks by printing the poster and having your family and friends strike a pose with the poster at the park or at a Parks & Recreation event throughout the month.

Post them to your Facebook page and tag us in your post. Pictures should be appropriate and family-friendly.

Try Scuba Class

Beachaven pool will hold an introductory class Saturday, July 14th from 1:00pm to 4:00pm for those interested in getting a taste of the scuba experience and an overview of what is involved in Scuba Certification. Class is $25.00 and is open to ages 10 and up.
