The Lady Govs welcome back all 11 starters from a year ago, plus two veterans that spent a large portion of the season out of action due to injury. Injury woes down the stretch caused the Lady Govs to stumble to a 9-8-1 overall record, and their 3-5-1 conference mark kept them out of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament. The Lady Govs look for a repeat of 2010, when they advanced to the OVC Championship game, as they begin the 2012 campaign.

“The teams spirits are great right now,” said head coach Kelley Guth. “They’re very excited to play. We’ve spent a lot of time organizing and teaching this last week, so I expect to us be very organized defensively against Evansville.”

Emily PerkinsAustin Peay will open the preseason without two All-OVC performers. Tatiana and Natalia Ariza remain in London with the Colombian National team for the Olympics and will not be in camp until either this weekend or early next week.

But even without the Ariza’s, a strong offensive core will be in Evansville, Wednesday night. Junior Emily Perkins (7g, 1a in 2011) enters her second season with the Lady Govs, looking to build on a sophomore campaign that earned her second-team all-conference and all-newcomer honors.

Joceline QuicenoAustin Peay’s other set of twins (juniors Joceline and Andy Quiceno) combined for four goals and seven assists last season.

Evansville juniors Kaitlin Robinett (5g, 2a in 2011) and Stephanie Thompson (4g, 2a) return to a Purple Aces squad that won three of its final four matches last season after starting the season 1-11-4.
