Landon Curtis departs Austin Peay Governors Football program

APSU Sports: Austin Peay Football

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Landon Curtis, who started three games at quarterback as a freshman for the Austin Peay State University football team a year ago, has elected to leave the program for “personal reasons.”

That was announced by APSU head coach Rick Christophel, Friday.

The Calhoun, GA, native was listed as the Govs’ No. 3 quarterback coming out of spring practice behind starter Jake Ryan and redshirt freshman Jacob Sexton.

Curtis won the backup quarterback battle last fall and stepped into the lineup when Ryan was injured against Southeast Missouri. He played the final half of that game and started the next three contests against Eastern Illinois, Central State and Murray State.

He completed 34 of 66 passes (51.5 percent) for 281 yards and threw one touchdown pass and two interceptions. His only TD strike was a 10 yarder to Devin Stark at Murray State.

The Govs currently will go with Ryan, Sexton and freshman Cage Scurlock, of Smith County High School.
