Ryan led the Govs on an impressive 17-play, 70-yard scoring drive to open the scrimmage. He completed 7-of-9 passes for 63 yards, including a 15-yard strike to Devin Stark that put them inside the 10-yard line. Three plays later it was Ian Pemberton’s two-yard dash that provided Ryan his only touchdown drive.

Sexton responded with a quick eight-play, 70-yard scoring drive. He attempted only two passes, but the second was a 16-yard touchdown toss to Hunter Branch. His scoring drive was helped along by a pair of penalties on the defense.

However the defense settled in from there, holding the offenses without a touchdown the game’s remainder. That provided plenty of opportunities for kickers Stephen Stansell and Walter Spears. Stansell was 2-for-4, making attempts from 20 and 26 yards and missing from 47 and 49 yards. Spears converted on his lone try – a 43-yard boot that cleared the crossbar.

Ryan completed 11-of-19 passes for 100 yards and a touchdown. Sexton finished the scrimmage completing 15-of-16 passes for 120 yards and a touchdown. Freshman Timarius Mitchell also played quarterback in the scrimmage’s second half. Senior wide receiver Devin Stark caught four passes for 47 yards and sophomore wideout Hunter Branch caught four passes for 40 yards.

The Govs running game saw plenty of action with 51 carries for 95 yards. Omar Williams rushed 15 times for 33 yards. Pemberton added 16 carries for 31 yards.

Defensively, safety Jeremy Ross led the outing with 10 tackles. Cornerback Montez Carlton and safety Antwaun Majors each recorded eight tackles. Linebacker Trevar Frizell finished with a team-best two tackles for loss as the defense finished with 15 tackles for loss.
