APSU Sports: Austin Peay Soccer
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team welcomes a pair of weekend non-conference opponents to Morgan Brothers Soccer Field this weekend. The Lady Govs host Gonzaga, 7:00pm, Friday, before concluding a recent four-match homestand at 2:00pm, Sunday, against Chattanooga.
The Lady Govs have had two successful victories (at UALR and against Appalachian State) bookended by a season-opening loss to Arkansas and Tuesday’s home disappointment against Lipscomb. Head coach Kelley Guth would like to see more consistency from her squad through this weekend.
“We have to rebound quickly,” Guth said. “It’s important right now to keep our legs fit. I’m interested to see our fitness and energy level by the end of this weekend.”
Gonzaga enters the weekend at 3-1-0, having won two straight over Idaho State and Boise State. The Bulldogs have been paced offensively by Sila Tuiofea, who has two goals and two assists this season.
Chattanooga has been shut out twice in a row after opening the season with a 6-0 win against Tennessee Temple. However, the Mocs have outshot opponents 63-17 in three matches this season.
The Lady Govs are 3-3-0 all-time against Chattanooga, and have won the previous two meetings by a combined 6-0 score. This will be the first meeting between Austin Peay and Gonzaga, and the first-ever game for the Lady Govs against a West Coast Conference opponent.
Austin Peay will be on the road for the first time since the season’s opening weekend when the Lady Govs travel to Miami (Ohio) for a 4:00pm, Friday, September 7th match-up. The Lady Govs return home September 14th against South Alabama.
Keep An Eye On
Haylee Shoaff needs one save to pass Brooke Abrahams for sole possession of fourth all-time in school history; both stand at 98 entering the weekend.
Emily Perkins needs one point to break into the top-10 all-time in Lady Govs history, and one goal to pass teammate Jocelyn Murdoch for seventh all-time.
Andy Quiceno has both of the Lady Govs game-winning goals this season.
