The Lady Govs (3-3-0) rebounded from back-to-back shutouts at the hands of Lipscomb and Gonzaga to score a season-high four goals against Chattanooga, Sunday. Junior Tatiana Ariza scored her first two goals of the season, her sixth career multi-goal game, and added her 11th career game-winning goal against the Mocs.

Senior Emily Perkins leads the Lady Govs through six games with seven points (three goals, one assist); Ariza (two goals, two assists) and junior Andy Quiceno (three goals) are close behind her with six points each. With one goal this weekend, Ariza would move into a tie for most goals in school history with Ashley Beck (2005-08).

Emily Perkins“This is a great test for our offense,” said head coach Kelley Guth. “We did a lot of things well against Chattanooga. A big part of our success is playing off one another, and that’s led to a lot of success this season.”

The Redhawks enter the weekend at 4-1-0, with two-time Mid-American Conference Player of the Week Haley Walter anchoring the middle of the field with three goals and an assist. Senior Jess Kodiak (four goals, two assists) leads the Redhawks in scoring with 10 points, while sophomore Kelsey Dinges is responsible for two of the teams four game-winning goals.

“They’re going to be aggressive,” Guth said. “They’ve got some size. We anticipate that they’ll be very organized and disciplined.”

Keep An Eye On

This match will not only be Austin Peay’s first against Miami (Ohio) but the Lady Govs first-ever contest against an opponent from the MAC.

The Lady Govs team 1.17 goals against average is on pace for the third-lowest mark in school history.

Perkins needs one point to pass Adonia Bivins (2003-08) for sole possession of seventh place all-time; the pair are currently tied with 22 apiece.

Junior Natalia Ariza needs one point to break her tie with Kaylee Yago (2002-05) and Erica Dengler (2003-06) for fourth all-time in scoring; all three are currently deadlocked at 30. A goal for Ariza would move her past Yago and Dengler in points and tie her with the duo for fourth all-time in goals scored with 12.

The Lady Govs return to Clarksville for a three-match homestand beginning 7:00pm, Friday, September 14th against South Alabama.
