Clarksville Police reports 3 Year old Child Shoots Himself

Clarksville Police DepartmentClarksville, TN – On September 8th, 2012, around 9:50pm, Clarksville Police responded to a shooting in progress at a Peachers Ridge Road address.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a 22 year old woman outside holding her 3 year old male child administering first aid. The child had sustained a gunshot wound to his lower abdomen area.

EMS arrived on scene and the child was taken by Lifeflight to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in critical but stable condition.

Detective Ronald Parrish was called and took over the investigation. Based on preliminary information, the 22 year old woman, who has a handgun carry permit, took off her Kel Tec .380 handgun and left it unattended on a couch.

Her son was eating at a table in a different area of the apartment. The woman sat down with her back to the couch and was working on the computer when she heard the sound of a gunshot.

She looked to see if there was a hole in the ceiling and then saw her son crying and holding his abdomen.  She started administering first aid and 911 was called.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
