Amazing Weather on Last Day of the 2012 Riverfest Celebration

2012 Riverfest - 25thClarksville, TN – As the final day of Riverfest 2012 opened rain showers were still falling over Clarksville, but they soon cleared out leaving simply marvelous weather for the rest of the day. It was cooler than it had been on the previous day which was nice, and the sky was a clear bright blue with fluffy white clouds.

The crowds flocked to McGregor Park to enjoy the days activities. First off was the Riverfest Regatta. Business, Community, and Civic organizations had spent the previous months getting their vessels and teams ready to compete.

At the same time local dance schools were performing at the Gateway Stage as proud family members cheered them on. They were followed by the Daymar Step Competition which saw local step teams strutting their stuff, in the various step teams between members of the community were invited to show off their moves. The Gateway to Stardom talent competition closed out the evening.

On the Coup stage was a bevy of local musical talents which kept the younger crowd entertained. The performers included Christen Brady; Hrothgar; Xanthi; Singerman; Deli; The Marcens; Joā€™Shua; Resistance House Band; Painted Blind; Khamsin; Almost Atlantic; Karitsa; No, Ted, No!; The Rough and Tumble; The Heathens; Spoken Nerd; Blue Sky Alert; Al D Ahmad Rashad; Magnum Opera and Opossum Holler. The Coup stage also played host to a Beard and Mustache Competition which attempted to find the most outlandish facial hair.

The Budweiser stage opened up at 11:45 and featured Freight Train; Rebecca Forehand; Awaken; Andy Miller Band; Jackson Alley; The Springs; Old Dominion; and Kip Moore closed out the evening. The Budweiser stage also played host to the Beaver Country Star talent competition.

The River of Culture stage in the kids zone played host to a eclectic lineup which included Acro Dance Express; Clarksville Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido Club; The Filipino-American International Association Inc; Baize Traditional & Mixed Martial Arts; Lanaā€™s Dance Centre; Kriegisch Martial Arts; The Ladies of Lada, Troupe Thalia; Natalieā€™s Dance Network; Hui Hawaii O Tenesi Hawaiian Civic Club; Ballet Folklorico Viva Panama; Harris Holt Martial Arts Academy Demo Team; the evening closed out with Karaoke with Cricket. The most interesting events in my opinion were the Nashville Zooā€™s ā€œWildlife on Wheelsā€ which was incredibly popular with kids of all ages; and the Recycled Trash Fashion Show, a new event for this year.

At the far end of the kids zone a Cornhole Tournament was underway. It’s amazing watching the skill of the players as they launch that beanbag 27 feet through air quite frequently landing in the teeny tiny hole in the Cornhole Court.

As the evening fell the lighted boat parade made their way down from the Marina to the Riverfront. They were lead by the Clarksville Fire Rescue Boat and the Montgomery County Rescue Squad boat; and followed by the Clarksville Police Department boat. In between were a number of brightly decorated boats including one from Bill Roberts Thunder Road Automotive & Marine. After they reached the end they merged in with the boats which had gathered to watch the evenings entertainments from the water.
