Led by senior Tabitha Beard, the Lady Govs fashioned four scores under 80 to move up two spots into seventh place with a 935. That 54-hole total was the third lowest score in program history while the 306 was the Lady Govs’ lowest round since the opening tournament of the 2010-11 season.

“I am really proud of them,” interim coach Chelsea Harris said. “Everything really came together today. I am excited for them because all their hard work is starting to pay off.

Campbell was the easy winner, shooting just 8-over par for the tourney to end with a 860. Central Arkansas was second, 40 strokes back at 900. The Lady Govs did outdistance Ohio Valley Conference rival Jacksonville State (951).

Beard recorded a trio of birdies on the day to go with five bogeys for her 74. She finished in 24th-place tie with a 232.

However, Austin Peay’s best overall finishes came from another senior and a freshman. Lauren Bond overcame a pair of early double bogeys to shoot 77 to end at 231, the same score as newcomer Jessica Cathey.

Like her veteran teammate, Cathey had a trio of sub-70 scores, including a 76, Tuesday. The Hixon native was off to an outstanding start (APSU started on No. 10), carding three straight birdies on No. 14-16, but a double bogey on No. 17 slowed her momentum.  Still she finished the first nine at 1-under 35. She struggled more on the final nine, shooting 6-over 41 for her 76 score.

Rachel DeatonJunior Rachel Deaton finished at 242, bouncing back from an opening-round 85 with two sub-870 scores, including 79 on Tuesday.

Senior Holly Batey never could anything going during the tournament, shooting a final-round 84 to end at 250.

“For her first college tournament I thought Jessica really played well,” Harris said. “She showed what she is capable of–she got off to a great start today.

”They all played well. They got it together as a team.”
