Fort Campbell Outdoor Recreation Adventure Programs for October

Morale, Welfare and RecreationFort Campbell, KY – Get outside and enjoy the Kentucky and Tennessee’s beautiful fall weather! The Outdoor Recreation Adventure Programs has plenty of fun-filled activities lined up this October. It starts on October 6th with a Kings Bluff Climbing Trip from 9:00am until 3:00pm.

Did you know that Clarksville has some of the best climbing in Middle Tennessee? Join Outdoor Rec as they venture to Kings Bluff, a scenic 2 mile crag located just 15 minutes from post. Transportation and equipment will be provided. Ages 12 and up are invited to participate and the cost is $35.00 per person.

Please bring appropriate clothing, water, snacks, and a packed lunch. This trip is geared towards beginners so all are welcome!  Preregistration is required by 4:00pm on October 5th.

Women in the Wilderness is a program designed for women to enjoy outdoor sports and learn new skills as well as meet like-minded women who want to live a healthy, outdoor lifestyle. On October 13th, from 10:00am to 12:00pm, Outdoor Rec will be offering an introduction course for Skeet Shooting for their Women in the Wilderness Program. The cost is $25.00 with skeet shooting equipment provided.  Preregistration is required by 4:00pm on October 12th.

On October 14th, you can join Outdoor Rec for the Montgomery Bell Mountain Biking trip and ride one of the best bikes on the market, a Cannondale Rush. This trip is scheduled to last from 11:00am until 4:00pm. Ages 14 and up are invited to participate. The cost is $19.00 per person with transportation, helmets, bikes and gloves provided. Montgomery Bell State park is located in Burns, Tennessee and offers 20 miles of professionally developed trails for riding. The Outdoor Rec staff will show you how to correctly and safely enjoy the sport of mountain biking. Don’t forget to bring food, water, and closed toe shoes.  Preregistration is required by 4:00pm on October 12th.

In the spirit of Halloween, you can come to the underground haunt in Kentucky’s Cave Country. Located in the Hidden River Cave, the Cave of Fear is 150 feet below the surface and is supposedly inhibited by the evil spirit of its founder Dr. G.A. Thomas. Join Outdoor Rec on this Haunted Cave Tour on October 19th from 5:00pm until 11:00pm. The cost is $35.00 per person and you must be at least 14 years of age to participate. Preregistration is required by 4:00pm on October 16th.

As fall arrives, Outdoor Rec will host their last canoe trip of the year. The Reelfoot Lake Paddling Trip will be held on October 20th from 8:00am until 4:00pm. The cost is $25.00 per person and you must be at least 6 years of age to participate. Reelfoot Lake is Tennessee’s largest natural lake and a must see paddling destination. Join Outdoor Red as they paddle through Reelfoot Lake’s cypress trees, view the bald eagles and observe one of the south’s largest migratory bird refuges. This backwater lake has thousands of acres to explore so do not forget to bring your camera! Preregistration is required by 4:00pm on October 18th.

The Outdoor Recreation Adventure Program will be taking a group for Ocoee Rafting on October 27th from 6:00am until 10:00pm. The cost is $85.00 per person and you must be at least 14 years of age to participate.  Located in Southeastern Tennessee, the Ocoee River is one of the gems in the whitewater industry.  You will paddle a 5 plus mile stretch of water with rapids ranging from class III to IV. All rafting equipment is provided. Please bring secure shoes (no flip flops), lunch and extra money for souvenirs or dinner on the ride home. Preregistration is required by 4:00pm on October 16th.

On October 31st, your children can have an unforgettable Halloween experience with Outdoor Rec’s Candy Climb Challenge Course. The event will last from 10:00am to 12:00pm and costs $7.00 per person or $5.00 with a costume. Children, age 5 to 15, can climb on Outdoor Rec’s 50 foot climbing wall and collect candy as they make their way to the top. After the climb, participants can relax, make smore’s and drink hot chocolate and cider around the campfire. Preregistration is required by 4:00pm on October 30th.
