Austin Peay Lady Govs Tennis’ Allison Carre makes finals at APSU Fall Open

APSU Sports: Austin Peay Women’s Tennis

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team hosted the APSU Fall Invitational this weekend, bringing in some of the best teams in the south and showcasing the best of Lady Govs tennis.

Sophomore Allison Carre advanced to the finals of the women’s Flight A. She knocked off No. 11 Kali Donner of SIU Edwardsville in the first round (6-2,6-4) to open play Friday.

Saturday, she defeated No. 10 Heather Robinson of Southeast Missouri (6-3,7-5) and No. 13 Kristina Labeja (6-4,6-2) before falling in the final to top-seeded Amandine Faouzi of Eastern Kentucky (6-0,6-4)

Sophomore Ornella Di Salvo also had a strong showing in the top flight; she advanced to the semifinals with wins over Southeast Missouri’s Nikole Novikova (6-1,7-5) and Evansville’s Mina Milovic (4-6,6-4,10-8) before falling to Faouzi (6-1,6-1).

Di Salvo and junior Andrea Cornea teamed up to advance to the finals in the top doubles flight. They defeated duos from Western Kentucky (Crofford/Mason, 8-6) and Murray State (Blue/Canty, 8-4) before losing a tough final to Eastern Kentucky (Gerritsen/Oscoz, 9-8 (7-0)).

Sophomore Vanessa Tavares was a semifinalist in Flight B; she defeated Western Kentucky’s Gabby Crofford (7-6,6-2) and UT Martin’s Anna Marie Herbold (7-6,6-2) before losing to Eastern Kentucky’s Melissa Gerritsen (7-5,6-1).
