Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan invited to attend prestigious Mayors’ Institute on City Design

City of ClarksvilleClarksville, TN – Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan is one of eight mayors in the United States who have been invited to attend the 2012 Mayors’ Institute on City Design East Regional Conference.

The Mayors’ Institute on City Design is a National Endowment for the Arts leadership initiative in partnership with the American Architectural Foundation and the United States Conference of Mayors. The University of Kentucky College of Design is hosting this East Regional session on behalf of the program.

It is a symposium intended to offer the invited mayors a better understanding of the design of cities. In addition to Mayor McMillan, seven other mayors will meet with eight internationally renowned design professionals to discuss specific projects, and development in general, through the perspective of urban design.

“This invitation is a tremendous honor for me and it’s another recognition that the City of Clarksville is moving and growing in the right direction,” said Mayor McMillan. “As I’ve made clear, I believe now is the time to begin working toward the building of a state-of-the-art performing arts and cultural center in our downtown area. The Mayors’ Institute on City Design is an opportunity for me to access cutting edge ideas and resources in urban design. Other Mayors who have attended previous sessions have told me that they return from this Institute with a host of ideas for urban design and economic development. This is a terrific opportunity for Clarksville and I’m looking forward to learning all I can.”

The sessions will be held October 10th–12th, 2012 in Lexington, Kentucky. All expenses for the Mayor’s participation are paid by the Institute.
