Pioneering Technology Partners with Campbell Crossing to Reduce Cooking Fires

Announcement made in conjunction with National Fire Prevention Week

Campbell CrossingFort Campbell, KY –  Campbell Crossing, a partnership between the Department of the Army and Lend Lease, and Pioneering Technology Corp. (“Pioneering”), an energy smart product innovation and consumer goods company have partnered together to help improve safety of families by reducing the number of cooking fires at Fort Campbell.

Cooking fires are the number one cause of household fires at Campbell Crossing. Over the past two years Campbell Crossing has experienced 24 cooking-related fires resulting in more than $150,000 in of damages.

As a result of these fires Campbell Crossing began an extensive analysis of Pioneering’s patented cooking fire prevention technology, the Safe-T-element. After months of research and discussions, Campbell Crossing determined that the technology could help protect the families they serve from the dangers of cooking fires while also reducing maintenance and energy costs.

The Safe-T-Element cooking system (STE) for electric coiled ranges is a high?end heat limiting technology engineered to help prevent stove top cooking fires. Simply put, the Safe?T?Element does not reach temperatures necessary to cause common kitchen items such as cooking oil, paper and cloth to catch on fire. This technology is already installed on more than 75,000 ranges in high-risk multi-residential housing throughout the world.

“We are excited to be installing the Safe?T?element in our homes,” said Brian Egbert, Project Environmental Health and Safety Manager at Campbell Crossing. “The investment in STE is expected to deliver on its mission and we are confident that the number of cooking fires will be reduced.” Implementation of the STEs will start in a single neighborhood with 170 homes, and once further evaluated is expected to be added to Campbell Crossing’s remaining homes.

Pioneering CEO Kevin Callahan added, “We are proud to partner with an elite and socially conscious company like Lend Lease and Campbell Crossing. National Fire Protection Week is a great time to make this announcement and is a reminder to all that fire continues to be a part of our daily lives in North America and around the world. It is the success we have had with this technology over the past four years in helping to eliminate household cooking fires and reduce energy costs on US military installations that helped attract the attention of an elite partner like Lend Lease and we are very proud to be working with them.”

The Lend Lease project at Fort Campbell is the first privatized military housing project to adopt this technology. Fire Prevention Week has been observed during the second week of October and is one of the longest running public health and safety observances on record.

Both Lend Lease and Pioneering are committed to fire prevention and are proud to help recognize National Fire Prevention Week.
