APSU Sports: Austin Peay Women’s Golf
Murfreesboro, TN – Bouncing back from its second straight subpar round, Austin Peay State University women’s golf team shot an afternoon round of 311 during first-day play of the Blue Raider Invitational.
The Lady Govs who ended their own F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate with a 322, matched their season’s worst 18 holes, Monday morning. However, the much-improved 311 has APSU at 623 and in 16th place after the first day. Host Middle Tennessee leads the tournament at 590.“There is no way we are a 320 team and I was proud of the way we bounced back this afternoon,” APSU coach Sara Robson said. “We just had way too many big numbers this morning. Hopefully, we can build from the momentum we had this afternoon and carry it into tomorrow, move up some spots.”
Only freshman Jessica Cathey (78-74=152) and junior Tala Mumford (78-76=154) were able to shoot below 80 in both rounds while sophomore Meghan Mueller bounced back from a morning-round 85 to shoot 79 in the afternoon. Senior Tabitha Beard, who struggled all day on the green, finished with a 163 (81-82). Senior Holly Batey ended the day at 171 (87-84).
“Jessica and Tala played well and kept their focus,” Robson said. “I was proud of the way Meghan bounced back from this morning to shoot a 79 this afternoon. Tabitha played consistent but she struggled inside five feet. She just couldn’t get anything going on the greens.”
