Austin Peay (13-13, 6-4 OVC West) opened its current road trip with back-to-back five-set matches last weekend. The Lady Govs came back from an 0-2 deficit to defeat SIU Edwardsville in five sets, Friday, as senior outside hitter Nikki Doyle recorded 21 kills. Austin Peay followed that by dropping a five-set decision at Eastern Illinois, Saturday, with Doyle recording 25 kills.

Nikki Doyle“Nikki has really stepped up her play offensively as the conference season has gone along,” said Lady Govs head coach Taylor Mott. “Still we have to find some consistency in our passing and defense if we’re going to be successful long term in the conference. While there is plenty of volleyball left to play, the end of the regular season is in sight and we need to be playing our best volleyball at this time.”

Belmont (10-14, 6-4 OVC East) begins a four-match homestand with Tuesday’s contest. The Bruins return home after picking up a pair of victories on the road last weekend. Belmont won a tough five-set decision at Tennessee Tech, Friday, before notching a three-set win at Jacksonville State, Saturday. Allison McCoy had 17 kills to lead Belmont at Tennessee Tech while a trio of players reached double-digit kills at Jacksonville State.

Tuesday’s meeting will resume a series that dates back to the 1998 season but has not seen the two teams face each other since 2008. Austin Peay owns an 11-6 all-time series lead, but Belmont has won the last six meetings. The Lady Govs last claimed victory against the Bruins during the 2004 season when they won both ends of a home-and-home series.
