APSU Sports: Austin Peay Women’s Golf
Murfreesboro, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s golf team could not continue its momentum at the Blue Raider Invitational, Tuesday, and shot a final-round 320, to finish at 953 for the 54-hole tourney, played at Old Fort Golf Club.As a result, the Lady Govs finished 17th. Host Middle Tennessee won the event with an 889.
The Lady Govs, who struggled in Monday’s morning round, bounced back with a solid 311, Monday afternoon. But APSU could not find the consistency needed to build off that round on the tourney’s final day.
“We didn’t hit as many fairways and we didn’t hit as many greens today,” APSU coach Sara Robson said. “We also didn’t have many up and downs.”
Tala Mumford stumbled through her worst round in weeks, shooting an 84. However, her three-round 238 was APSU’s second-best score.
“Jessica played well again today,” Robson said. “However, she a lost a few shots late and that is something we are going to work on-her finishing strong.
“Tala just struggled all day long-it was just one of those days.”
Sophomore Meghan Mueller, who shot an opening-round 85, finished strong with a 79 yesterday and 78 Tuesday. She finished at 242, the Lady Govs’ third best score, while senior Tabitha Beard continued to struggle on the greens, finishing with a 244 (81-82-81). Senior Holly Batey ended at 261 (87-84-90).
“Meghan played pretty well today,” Robson said. “She dropped in some long putts just to save par on some holes and she chipped in on the last hole today for the 78.
“Tab just couldn’t get any putts to drop this week.”
The Lady Govs will wrap up the fall season next Monday and Tuesday in UAB Beach Blast in Gulf Shores, AL.
